“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all
our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any
affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Many times as Christians we become so caught up in “being the typical Christian.” We do all the right things, speak the right lingo, serve like we’re supposed to, but is that who we really are? So much time can be spent “looking” the part that we don’t actually feel the part. Therefore, we walk around living a superficial life. We are actually living in fear of being found out. Will others really accept the real me? Will they judge me for who I really am? If I tell them the truth about me, what will they think? We drive ourselves crazy wondering how others will respond, when the truth is, they are just like us – a woman after the heart of God.
The verses in 2nd Corinthians tell us God is a God of mercy and comforts us at all times. Not only have we gone through our afflictions to learn from them and become stronger, but so that God will bring us through our afflictions. He then commands us to share our experiences with others so they will have the joy of experiencing the comfort He provides. Be real, be open, and believe in God’s word.
